I've added 8 Ball to my pool workouts. It's more complex than 9 Ball and requires more thought. Clutters in 8 Ball can make running out difficult so you have to be really good with your pattern play. I'm hoping that learning how to play patterns in 8 Ball will improve my pattern play in 9 Ball.
